Concerto Competition Saturday, February 2, 2019

Registration Deadline: Saturday, January 19, 2019 for registration along with a copy of your music. Late registrants will not be accepted.

Orchestra members may audition for an opportunity to perform a Concerto with the Senior Orchestra at the May 12th, 2019 concert. One winner will be chosen to perform a piece no longer than 20 minutes.
If you wish to audition, please review the following:

  1. If you think you are ready to play a solo piece with the orchestra (standard concerto repertoire), you should first speak with your private instructor, and then email us the name of your concerto and have your solo work approved by Joel Stobbe in advance of submitting your registration.
  2. Choose a short piece or movement that you feel confident playing and makes you sound your best, rather than attempt to play something “that will really impress” the judge but is too difficult for you.
  3. The solo work you prepare must either be in the SYO library, (see below) or available for download from the Petrucci Library (http://imslp.org/wiki/). Please also ensure that the edition you are preparing is the same as the one in our library or on the Petrucci Library website! (Ask your private instructor for guidance.)
  4. Hand in the registration form or submit the online registration with a copy of your planned piece with by January 19, 2019. Late registrants will not be accepted.
