Orchestra Programs

Surrey Youth Orchestra delivers weekly music programs at five orchestra levels – the Piccolo Strings, Prelude Strings, Intermezzo Strings, Intermediate Symphonic Orchestra, and Senior Orchestra.

Young musicians from across Metro Vancouver are invited to audition for orchestra placement. Visit our Auditions page for more information on how to book your audition.

Rehearsals are located at Surrey Christian High School and held every Saturday from September – May for each season (Depending on Surrey Youth Orchestra Calendar). The 2-3 weeks leading up to the concert will have extra rehearsals. The SYO will begin rehearsing in a full symphony orchestra and have sectionals with SYO sectional coaches.

In addition to weekly rehearsals, there are music retreat weekends, two chamber music camps, two open houses and rehearsals with guest conductors over the camp weekends.

The Surrey Symphony Society is dedicated to enriching the lives of young people through the study and performance of music. Students who have been accepted to one of the Surrey Youth Orchestras through an audition process and who can demonstrate financial need may apply for a bursary.

Chamber Music Programs

We offer two Chamber Music Workshops each season in the Fall and Spring. Student chamber groups are formed by Chamber Program Director Joel Stobbe and are coached by members of the Rose Gellert String Quartet, Bernard Blary, Greg Farrugia, Albert Seo, Clara Shandler, Yuyu Liu and local strings professionals. There may be extra concerts in nearby cities over the chamber music camo trips in addition to chamber music opportunities.
